COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Applications are invited for a Communications Officer for Amnesty
International Ireland. The role is offered on a full-time basis and
the post holder will be part of the Communications team. The Officer
will deliver specific functions within the Communications team, with a
particular focus on digital communication.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
* Under the direction of the Communications Manager, to work with the
communications team in developing and achieving Operational Plan
objectives and the section?s communications strategies.
* Under the direction of the Communications Manager, to contribute
to the delivery of the day to day communications responsibilities
within the section including:
* Working with the Communications Manager to develop cross-platform
communications outputs which achieve the organisation?s strategic
campaign, advocacy, communication and growth goals.
* Generating high-quality online communications and print content,
including websites, email marketing, social media and other digital
platforms.
* Day to day responsibility for co-ordinating the organisation?s
regular communications outputs, including monitoring and management of
organisation?s websites and social media platforms.
* Develop content and testing strategies for paid marketing
campaigns on social media platforms.
* Support the Communications Manager when needed with media outputs,
media monitoring, and press events.
* When necessary, responding to queries for information from the
media and other individuals, organisations and members of the public.
* Supporting the Communications Manager in administrative work,
including updating of press lists, scheduling meetings, organising
internal meetings etc.
* Working with communications, audio/visual and other teams in the
International Secretariat to maximise opportunities for coverage of
Amnesty International?s work.
* Ensuring adherence to Amnesty International?s Global Identity,
including language and style guide, image usage and design guidelines.
* Work with fundraising, campaigns and other teams to deliver
strategic, impactful communications materials.
* Assisting the communications manager in identifying and developing
new opportunities and initiatives by monitoring current trends as well
as contributing to team meetings and planning processes
* Supervision of interns and volunteers as required.
* Some out of hours work may be required, with time off in lieu.
* In addition, the post holder may be required to undertake any
other duties as may be assigned by the Communication Manager or the
Executive Director from time to time in addition to or in lieu of the
duties detailed above.
IDEALLY, THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
* Extensive, demonstrable experience in media and communications,
especially digital communications
* Proven ability to develop a range of engaging, impactful
communications materials
* Demonstrable expertise in designing and creating content for use
across multiple digital channels, including basic video and photo
editing skills
* Extensive experience delivering social media strategies against
agreed KPIs
* Proven knowledge and experience of working with relevant digital
platforms and tools, including Wordpress, email marketing, Google
Analytics, Adobe creative suite, other design platforms like Canva and
social media platforms (Facebook, including Facebook Business Suite,
Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, & others). Experience using social media
scheduling tools and analytics platforms also an advantage
* Ability to convey complex information in a straightforward,
interesting and motivating manner.
* Keen interest in and/or past experience of working in human rights
or campaigning role
* Exceptional written communication skills with ability to
communicate to a wide range of audiences
* Ability to work well under pressure, maintaining both a highly
organised level of accuracy and output; and to plan and prioritise
work to ensure deadlines are met
* Administrative skills and computer literacy including Microsoft
Office
* Experience in a team-working environment
* Flexibility in working hours
